GLP-1 Informed Consent

Required acknowledgments before GLP-1 receptor agonist treatment through NuraRx.

GLP-1 receptor agonists are prescription medications that may help with weight and metabolic health. Your licensed clinician determines whether treatment is appropriate for you.

Medication information

  • Medications may include semaglutide, tirzepatide, or compounded formulations.
  • Compounded GLP-1 products are not FDA-approved drug products.
  • Route of administration is typically subcutaneous injection unless your clinician selects an alternative.
  • Dosing is individualized and titrated under clinician supervision.

Benefits and limitations

Clinical trials (e.g., STEP 1, SURMOUNT-1) reported average weight loss in study populations. Individual results vary and are not guaranteed. Substantial weight may be regained after discontinuation.

Risks and contraindications

  • Contraindicated: personal/family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2, active pancreatitis, pregnancy or planning pregnancy.
  • Boxed warning: thyroid C-cell tumor risk observed in animal studies.
  • Common effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, injection site reactions.
  • Serious risks: pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, suicidal ideation (FDA class warning).
  • Drug interactions: insulin may require dose adjustment; oral contraceptives may have reduced absorption.
  • Seek emergency care for severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, or chest pain.

Monitoring

Baseline labs (e.g., A1C, comprehensive metabolic panel) may be required. Follow-up visits and refill reviews occur at clinician-directed intervals.
